Lori Knutson RN, BSN, HNB-BC

 

Lori Knutson is both a clinician and healthcare administrator with over 30 years of dedication to the advancement of health promotion and integrative healthcare.  Currently she is the Associate Vice President of Health and Well-Being, Duke University Health System and Executive Director of the Leadership Program in Integrative Healthcare for Duke Integrative Medicine.  Most recently Lori was the Administrative Director of Integrative Health and Medicine, Hackensack Meridian Health, NJ.  She is the founding Executive Director for the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing, Allina Health, Minneapolis, MN.  Lori is a senior advisor to Healthy US a national initiative with the intention of bringing whole health to individuals and communities.  She was instrumental in obtaining the first multi-million dollar National Institutes of Health grant to study integrative pain management in the acute care setting.  Lori has authored several book chapters and published peer-reviewed articles.   In 2006 she was named the Holistic Nurse of the Year by the American Holistic Nurses Association.  She aspires to be a catalyst in transforming healthcare to wholeness.

Brendan McCormack, D.Phil (Oxon.), BSc (Hons.), FRCN, FEANS, FRCSI, FRSA, PGCEA, RMN, RGN

 

Brendan’s internationally recognised work has resulted in successful long-term global collaborations in person-centred practice and gerontological nursing. He has more than 600 published outputs, including 190 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and 10 books.  Brendan is a Fellow of The European Academy of Nursing Science, Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing, Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. In 2014 he was awarded the ‘International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame’ by Sigma Theta Tau International and in 2019 was listed in the New Year ‘Top 100 outstanding nurses’ by the Twitter Group #wenurses. 

Martin McNamara, DSc, EdD, RN, FAAN, FFNMRCSI

Dr McNamara is Professor, Associate Dean for External Relations and Director of the MSc in Leadership, Innovation and Management for Healthcare at the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems. He is a Registered Nurse and holds BSc, BA, MEd and MA degrees, MSc degrees in Nursing and in Business, and a Doctorate in Education. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) degree by the University of Connecticut in 2014 and an Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School in 2018. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Geraldine Murray, MBA (Hons,) BNS. Diploma Management. ICU Cert. CCU Cert. RGN. RPN

Geraldine Murray is an executive healthcare leader, with extensive experience of hospital governance. She has held senior positions at executive nurse director level in large acute hospitals in Ireland and the Middle East, and is currently Director of Nursing in Galway University Hospitals, in the West of Ireland. She has led a number of organisations towards the achievement of international accreditation (Joint Commission International/JCI). Geraldine has also held a senior academic position within a higher education institute in Ireland where she managed undergraduate and postgraduate nurse education programmes.

 

Geraldine maintains an ongoing interest and continued involvement in research, quality clinical care initiatives, international accreditation, and in the dynamics of multicultural working environments.

 

Geraldine has been a founder of a number of nursing associations and has received many awards in nursing throughout her career. She is the author of several publications.

Michael Shannon, PHD, MBA, BSC

Michael has extensive experience in corporate and clinical leadership in Ireland, England and the Middle East. He has held a number of Leadership positions including:

  • Founder and owner Global Leadership Consultancy (GLC)

  • Advisor Ministry of Health, Bahrain

  • Consultant to the World Health Organisation

  • Director of the Institute of Leadership, RCSI, Bahrain

  • National Nursing & Midwifery Services Director HSE, Ireland

  • Nurse Advisor at the Department of Health, Ireland

  • Area Director Dublin Mid Leinster, Ireland

  • Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Palliative Care Letterkenny and Sligo University Hospitals, Ireland

  •  

Michael’s professional and academic qualifications include:

  • Registered General, Psychiatric and Orthopaedic Nurse

  • PhD at Dublin City University

  • MBA (Hons) University College Dublin

  • BSc (hons) from the University of Ulster

  • Diploma in Education from Leicester University

  • Certificate in Implementation Science, Trinity College Dublin

  • International Healthcare Management programme, Harvard University, USA

  • Currently studying a Masters in Medical Law (LLM) at Demonfort University, Leicester  

He has co-authored a number of book chapters and has published in various international publications.

Orla Shannon

Sligo native, Orla Shannon is a lyric coloratura soprano soloist and ensemble singer with wide ranging interests from Baroque to Contemporary repertoire. Having entered Maynooth University on an academic scholarship, she graduated with a first-class honours Masters, and continued vocal performance at Uni für Musik und darst Kunst, Vienna where she was selected to perform as a soloist at Wiener Konzerthaus. Her doctoral research on twentieth-century Irish female composers, is the recipient of a scholarship awarded by the Irish Research Council. Orla currently studies privately with Professor Ashley Stafford in London and enjoys combining her performative and musicological expertise in a lecturing capacity at DCU.

Seán Paul Teeling, MBA, MA, BSC, BMUS

Seán Paul Teeling is the Programme Director for the Professional Certificate and Graduate Diploma in Lean Healthcare at UCD Health Systems. Prior to this, he worked as Lean Manager at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Dublin, working closely with the Hospital and the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems on the development of the highly successful Lean Six Sigma healthcare programme. In his previous role as the Clinical Planning Officer on the Mater Campus Hospital Development Project for 8 years, he worked collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders, the local community, the Project team and the Department of Health on the planning, development and implementation of acute clinical and support services for the new 65,000 sqm Whitty building.Coming from a clinical background, he has worked as an Operating Theatre manager in the Mater and Beaumont hospitals, and in Tallaght, the Adelaide and the National Children's Hospital Harcourt Street, as well as working as an OR Nurse in both the UK and the United States. Seán Paul holds an MBA (with merit),MA,BSc (hons) in Health Service Management, and BMus alongside his specialist Lean Six Sigma Green, Black and Master Black Belt qualifications. He is also a licensed SHINGO Institute Affiliate and a member of the American Society of Quality (ASQ). He has further qualifications in General (RN) and Children's (RCN) Nursing, and a H.Dip in Operating Theatre Nursing. He is currently a PhD student with and an affiliate of the Centre for Person Centred Practice Research, QMU Edinburgh. His research is in Lean, Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma in healthcare and in particular the influence of Process Improvement methodologies on Person-centred Cultures.In January 2011 he was appointed by the Minister for Health as a member of the Health Products Regulatory Authority Advisory Committee on Medical Devices, to which he was recently reappointed for a second 5 year term.
